The House of Representatives is set to vote Friday on the energy and climate-change bill aimed at appeasing the environmental lobby and imposing an indirect tax on the entire American population.
The legislation, sponsored by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), is aimed at severely reducing greenhouse gases and spurring renewable energy sources.
The most controversial portion of the bill is the “cap-and-trade” fees which would allow companies to buy and sell the right to emit carbon dioxide and other gases. This fee will be passed on to consumers through their energy bills.
The impact of cap-and-trade varies from the $98-$140 a household would pay per year as indicated by the Environmental Protection Agency or as high as $4000 a year as cited by the Heritage Foundation. The figures vary based on which version of the legislation is being analyzed as well as other factors which are wildly fluctuating such as the price of oil.
In any version, this is another cost to the American consumer and business owner.
