For seven years Michigan families have waited for leadership and endured broken promises from Jennifer Granholm and Michigan Democrats. For seven years, we’ve watched as friends, families and neighbors have lost their jobs, their homes and have left the state.
After seven years in office, Gov. Jennifer Granholm has decided it’s time to “reform” government. But her reforms only cover one-third of the $1.6 billion deficit our state faces. These “reforms” do not completely address the structural deficit that continually challenges Michigan. These “reforms” are nothing but smoke and mirrors-she’s giving Michigan families what they want to hear without making the tough decisions.
Jennifer Granholm and her Democrat colleagues are once again looking for the easy way out-pushing Michigan’s deficit problem down the road the for the next person to address.
While Granholm attempts to dazzle us with rhetoric, House and Senate Republicans are rolling up their sleeves and going to work. Before Granholm even talked about reforms this year, Senate Republicans unveiled their reform package that will actually Fix Michigan.
The Senate GOP called for all government employees to do what many in the private sector have been doing for years-pay for part of their health care coverage and take a pay cut. The Senate GOP also wants to protect our students by ensuring the money gets to the classroom and isn’t lost on administrative costs. The Senate GOP plan provides the state a savings of $2.2 to $2.6 billon. The governor’s reforms only save the state $450 million.
Jennifer Granholm and her Democrat colleagues have devastated this state. Now, as she prepares to deliver her final State of the State address Wednesday night, one has to wonder what promises she’ll make and fail to deliver upon this time.
If I could ask her one question it would be: Why did you wait seven years to act?
Fix Michigan,
Ron Weiser
