WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following comments in response to the Democrat Majority passage of the Debt Limit Increase bill, a measure to increase the national deficit limit by $1.9 trillion or 15.3 percent debt increase for a statutory debt limit of $14.294 trillion.

Congresswoman Miller said:

“We have heard a lot of talk recently from President Obama and Congressional Democrats about the need for greater fiscal responsibility, but actions speak louder than words. Today, the Democrats forced through a $1.9 trillion increase in our national debt to fuel their out-of-control spending binge with the bill passed along to our children, grandchildren and future generations. Once the increase is signed into law, the federal government will be able to borrow up to $14.3 trillion.

“It is long past time for Congress to give more than lip service to fiscal responsibility and begin to cut spending and reduce our deficit. Today, the national debt represents $40,053 per person in the nation. America has maxed out its credit card and instead of tightening our belt like every American family must in a similar situation; Congress simply raises its own limit. In fact, since President Obama and the current Democrat Majority took office they have increased the national debt limit by nearly $3 trillion, and that is just in the last 12 months.

“Democrats have repeatedly promised the American people change, but the biggest change we see is the massive amount of debt being piled on the American people which puts our economy at further risk.”
